The automotive market faces the most important paradigm shift in decades.Their concerns are no longer the same and the interests were modified in such a way that the revolution is lived both inside and outside the companies.Today, one of the clearest impacts of this new era is being experienced. Some of this is evident in Detroit, within the framework of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS, for its acronym in English), which opened its doors and came loaded with new features.Incidentally, starting in 2020, the legendary industry meeting will change its date to June. Some claim that this decision is related to avoiding the cold (no automotive salon in the world is carried out with such low temperatures), but it is speculated that the underlying motive is another. With a few days of difference with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) of Las Vegas, which brings together the main global technology companies of different areas, the Detroit Showroom was left without a margin to compete. The most important automotive companies moved to the CES and there was a great paradox: this year, 12 vehicle manufacturers joined, while the NAIAS competed less.At first glance, the explanation seems alien to the Volkswagen novelty. However, it is the clearest example to explain why a path of change without return is evident. And the new company that created Volkswagen follows that path: fewer "fierros", more technology.Elli, her recent sonNamed as Elli Group GmbH - a synonym of "Electric Life" -, the VW initiative aims to promote sustainable mobility and promote a lifestyle that integrates electric cars into everyday life.To achieve this, it will offer charging solutions and services connected to energy for the group's brands (Volkswagen owns Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche and Seat, among others) and for competitors.Among the electricity supply plans, he will propose a table with tariffs and build charging stations. The business areas in which the company will move in the face of what is coming are the following:- @home. In the future, more than half of the owners of electric models will charge their cars in their homes. By virtue of this, Ellis is already preparing a green energy service for this market. To this end, users can hire a Wallbox to power the vehicle at night at an affordable price. The most accessible (Wallbox AC of 11KW) will allow to fully charge the vehicle's battery in 5 to 8 hours. It will also offer an intelligent energy management system whereby:- The customer can use his car as a source of electricity for his home (if there is any remaining in the vehicle's battery).- And vice versa, through photovoltaic panels installed in the house. This same system has been developed by Nissan with the Leaf, by feeding the home with solar generators.- @destination: Elli aims to supply cargo stands in parking lots and dealerships. The plan is to add "pumps" on their own parking lots until they reach 5,000 by 2020.But this is not all, as it will support the group's brands in the transition from their fleets to electric mobility, as well as companies without a fleet, to which they will offer advice. Finally, as a mobile service provider, Elli will make charging in public spaces more comfortable thanks to the digital payment through a card and tailored rates.Thinking of the futureThese are the fundamental pillars of Elli, the brand that launched the Volkswagen world. However, they are not the only ones that are part of the firm's plans to become a sustainable mobility company. The creation of this company is the prelude to the most ambitious plan of the German company that is already underway: develop electric vehicles. The first of the rear is almost a reality. It is the I.D., which will arrive in 2020. It will offer autonomy of between 400 and 600 kilometers, Internet connection, ability to recognize the user through the mobile phone and adapt to their preferences. The list is completed with the I.D. Buzz, which is the modernization of the mythical Combi. Then follows the I.D. CROZZ, an SUV.While these models are gestating, the company prepares in parallel, in terms of infrastructure and awareness, with the development of solutions for individual customers and companies inside and outside the VW Group. That is, Volkswagen wants Elli to be a provider of sustainable mobility for those who need it."As one of the largest manufacturers in the world, Volkswagen will accelerate the pace of the urgent and necessary transition of transport and energy towards emission-neutral electric mobility," says Thomas Ulbrich, Head of Electrical Mobility of the Executive Committee of the German automotive. He added: "The new company will play its role with energy offers from renewable sources and smart charging solutions, thus entering into a strategically and extremely exciting business area that opens up a considerable number of opportunities to strengthen the ties with existing clients but, also, with new consumers. "Thorsten Nicklass, CEO of Elli, highlights the green energy of this new company from sources 100% renewable and free of carbon dioxide."The mission is to generalize electric mobility in our environment, Elli wants to promote a lifestyle that integrates the electric car as a daily element more"The company says it will deploy a large number of solutions - from hardware to loading, additional digital services and complete advice packages - for the present and future needs of individual and commercial electric mobility customers. The reality in Argentina and the regionWhile globally announces large deployments of new technologies, Volkswagen has also addressed its first steps in the Mercosur with sustainable mobility, including Argentina. The SAM Region, as they call the company in South America, has four pillars that it is developing:1) AI-Cognitive Manual. It was launched in February 2018 with the Virtus, the first vehicle manufactured in Brazil that uses artificial intelligence. It includes as an innovation the "cognitive manual", which uses IBM Watson technology to provide data: it allows users to interact and obtain information about literature on board. It is also available in Tiguan Allspace and the New Vento.2) Digital dealers. Brazil is the first market to implement this new way of selling cars, which has virtual reality features and a touch screen. In the first phase of the project, 10 distributors will offer the concept of digital distributors earlier this year.In the first quarter of 2019 there will be a total of 30 digital distributors available in Latin America.3) Electrification. In South America, it began to implement its strategy of electric vehicles, with six hybrid and "plug-in" cars in the next five years. The first model oriented to this strategy, the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid, is expected to arrive in the South American region in the second half of 2019. It combines electric motors and TSI.However, the main challenge is: the preparation of cities and routes to receive these new cars, which includes infrastructure, charging points, incentives, training in the dealer network and mobility culture.4) Connected cars. Volkswagen accelerates to be the first company to offer in Latin America a digital platform that will connect key information of the vehicle in a smartphone application (VW Connect). Although the T-Cross Highline comes from the factory, it will be offered as an option in 2019 for all Volkswagen vehicles manufactured from 2012.This technology provides statistics, such as the total mileage of the vehicle, the range, the average speed, the routes traveled, the date of travel and the fuel consumption (of each route). In the specific case of Argentina, there are three important facts.First, E-Mobility is the future. "We are working from ADEFA with the Government to generate the necessary conditions and develop the ecosystem that these new technologies require and that are not yet in our country (shippers, tax benefits, incentives) so that it can evolve quickly," Volkswagen sources explained. iProUP.In addition, the company highlights the importance of having reduced the tariffs for extra-Mercosur cars that have hybrid or electric propulsion from 35% to 3%.In the automotive industry, they are already training technicians and distributors to prepare them for the commercialization of the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid in Argentina. This vehicle has a combustion engine and an electric one, combined, that delivers 204 HP of power and has a 100% electric range of 50 km."The Golf GTE will be the first step and the bridge in the strategy of electric mobility in the local market, in which the range and supply of VW GTE vehicles will surely be expanded, and then we will have the new global products that VW will launch to become leader in sustainable mobility ", sources from the company told iProUP.Beyond the carsThe change of Volkswagen, in fact, anticipates a new vision of the companies in general, since the big players of the sector will not only deal with the manufacture of cars, the creation of more powerful engines that consume less fuel or the most extreme design to have the best SUV.Today's concern is with technology, and its allies are no longer the traditional suppliers that manufacture auto parts. On the contrary, the partners to think about the immediate future now are software companies, artificial intelligence and even startups that do not stop innovating in the sector. In this context, the German company, number one in sales of cars in the country and global leader, created Elli, his company designed for the "digital economy" that is already present, and that will leave many winners and losers in the path, depending on its capacity to convert.
