Movistar starts offering its Movistar TV service in several cities of the country on Monday. As it already happens in different points of Buenos Aires, especially the south and west of the conurbano, it is a proposal that includes live television, more signals on demand and the Netflix service. As he had promised when he officially launched his service, in mid-October, in 2019 he would begin his expansion to the provinces. And from now Movistar TV will be available in the cities of Mendoza, San Juan, Neuquén, Mar del Plata and Bariloche. In the case that the technology of dominating connectivity is the ADSL, such as Mendoza, San Juan and Rio Negro, or the modem mode, as it happens in Neuquén.In these cities, the company deployed fiber optic networks on which its service is based. Specifically, places where this technology has not yet arrived from any other company and is the most efficient to mount content in streaming mode, in addition to other features, such as telephony and Internet access. It is in these areas that the operator reinforces its strategy, since it is the way that will allow it to reach clients more quickly. Especially if it is not Telecom's land (or Cablevisión's).In all ways, Telefonica will begin to compete with different providers depending on the city in question. In Mendoza, it will basically do so with Supercanal (whose networks are of very low speed), Claro and DirecTV, which has been deploying optical fiber for two years. In Bariloche, it will do so, in part, with Telecom, and with the cooperative of that city. In San Juan, with local providers, while in Mar del Plata it will cross again with Telecom, with other suppliers and cooperatives in the area. History that will be repeated almost identically in Río Negro. The proposal that will begin to arrive in these cities of the country will be identical to the one offered in Buenos Aires. And, as with the rest of the services, it will have the same price, within the framework of a national tariff strategy practiced by the different telecommunications operators. The contents can be viewed through the home television as well as a computer, a Tablet or the Smartphone, as a way to respond to the new consumption exercised by users. The basic subscription includes all TV channels in full HD, on-demand content that provides those signals, and exclusive Movistar Series, which promises to have at least one premiere per month. To this is added an e-sports and Netflix channel that is integrated in the recommender. From the company they remembered that Movistar TV is interactive since it gives the possibility of pausing live and restarting any program or movie. Allows you to return to the beginning of the programs already started and see the contents that were issued in the last 24 hours, giving the client the option to build their own consumption experience. The prices, as said, are the same as those that already apply in Buenos Aires. The one mounted on an access of 100 mb costs $ 1,709 during 12 months, while the one of 300 mb (symmetrical, that is to say, the same speed of ascent that of descent) ascends up to $ 2,057 for the same period. As a differential, the company installs in the homes two repeaters to distribute the WiFi signal evenly and that there is no intermittence or speed difference between those devices that are further away or closer to the router. Thus, the firm begins to offer its combos beyond the City and the province of Buenos Aires and will seek with fiber optic deployments to reach the largest number of homes with inhabitants who are not satisfied with the access speeds they currently have.So far, the operator already has more than 1,600,000 homes passed with fiber optic technology. And more than 100,000 customers who have contracted the services of Movistar TV.In the short-term plans of the company, whose investment budget for this year is still unknown, is to surpass the 2 million past homes and the 200,000 customers that contract the service in combo over fiber optics. The possibilities of faster growth of this service are given in Mendoza and San Juan for being two of the provinces with a penetration of broadband that is below 40% (37.99% and 33.05% respectively, according to data of the Enacom National Communications Agency). In Bariloche and Río Negro the opportunities will be given by the need to have better connectivity and entertainment alternatives, a fact that will also be repeated in Mar del Plata.
The competition begins to take shape in different parts of the country now with the advanced Movistar. It will be necessary to see how much the chips move the rest of the players, big and small, so that a real competition is noticed not only by price but also by quality of provision and general proposal.
